{"id":6,"date":"2012-02-23T18:40:28","date_gmt":"2012-02-23T08:40:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jesskahrawr.com\/blog\/?p=6"},"modified":"2014-01-10T21:35:01","modified_gmt":"2014-01-10T11:35:01","slug":"saffron-softies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.pescapresents.com\/blog\/2012\/02\/saffron-softies\/","title":{"rendered":"Saffron Softies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pescapresents.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/sc-cat-softie-6.jpg\" width=\"\"600\" height=\"400\" alt=\"Saffron Craig Softies - Snuggles\" class=\"single-img\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I spied these cuties at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftfair.com.au\/Sydney2011\/\">Sydney Craft &amp; Quilt Fair<\/a>\u00a0back in June last year but made myself walk away at the time. While buying supplies for another softie pattern (for a more complicated creature I&#8217;ll introduce soon) from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kelanifabric.com.au\/\">Kelani Fabric<\/a>\u00a0I came across the fabric panels by Saffron Craig again and had to get them as a warm up project.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s as easy as cut the front and back out, pin right sides together, sew around leaving a small gap, turn inside out, fill with stuffing, sew up the gap &#8211; you could probably do it in an hour so why it took me a good month or more to make I don&#8217;t know.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pescapresents.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/sc-cat-softie-1.jpg\" width=\"295\" height=\"295\" alt=\"Saffron Craig Softies - Sewing\" class=\"double-img left\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pescapresents.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/sc-cat-softie-2.jpg\" width=\"295\" height=\"295\" alt=\"Saffron Craig Softies - Stuffing\" class=\"double-img\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/saffroncraig.com\/softies\">two videos on Saffron Craig&#8217;s website<\/a>\u00a0which show her making her softies which got me as far as cutting, sewing &amp; stuffing. It wasn&#8217;t until I read\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/chasingcottons.blogspot.com\/2011\/09\/sewing-with-kids.html\">this blog post on Chasing Cottons<\/a>\u00a0and saw photos of another softie being stuffed and sewn up by cute little girl hands that I got over my fear of\u00a0 &#8220;what if I don&#8217;t do it properly?&#8221; and finished them off.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pescapresents.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/sc-cat-softie-5.jpg\" width=\"\"600\" height=\"400\" alt=\"Saffron Craig Softies - Mittens\" class=\"single-img\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A couple of tips I would add to those already out there, some which I figured out while making my kitties and some that I worked out after and would consider next time&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To minimise the amount of white showing around the seams, when pinning the front and back together hold them up to a light source so you can see where the outlines are, and check from both sides.<\/li>\n<li>If there are lines that match up like the collars on these kitties, use those as reference points to match up as well.<\/li>\n<li>Stuff them heaps! Leave a bit of room when you&#8217;re ready to sew up the gap, I found it helped to have a bit of room when initially turning in those seams to match up. Sew it up a bit so you can still fit a finger or pen\/pencil through the gap comfortably and add some more stuffing then finish closing it up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Or you can just ignore all that, slap them together and they&#8217;ll still be just as cute the way you make them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pescapresents.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/sc-cat-softie-3.jpg\" width=\"\"600\" height=\"400\" alt=\"Saffron Craig Softies -
